Between half past one and three upon the morning of Friday, December 22^nd, 2012, Natividad Stone, heiress to the Lentex Computing Company, ponders on a beach in her native Central American republic of Costazul... corporate skullduggery, her third husband's disastrous career in advertising, her appointment, later today, with a Suelan abortionist and the unfortunate incident prompting her to leave her thirty fifth birthday celebration before midnight.

Here Evie dreams a future and remembers the past... as when she and second husband, Jeff Streich, bricoleur, apprenticed themselves to Doctors of cybernetics; men of her father's and grandfather's generation who'd developed applications and borrowed technique from Nazi scientists interned at Farm Hall, UK, after the War and interrogated by experts from Turing to Blackett, Oppenheimer to Harry Stone himself! Secrets of artificial intelligence best concealed from the world!

At the Franklin Institute of Technology, in New Jersey, Jeff and Evie, following in the footsteps of T. David Stone three decades earlier, attempt to tweak the Lentex supercomputers - Ralph and Alice - into yielding up corporate and military secrets but... inadvertently?... insert their own DNA into the equation by vomiting into the machine's organic coolant fluid... already corrupted by an infusion of Hitler's blood passed over to T. via his father, Harry Stone, Armageddon enthusiast, at Farm Hall. Proceeding to Costazul, Jeff and Evie encounter horrific experiments at a remote jungle ranch and obtain a distillate capable of bridging the void between carbon and silicon, just as T. and the much-younger Jeff hauled a planeload of Suelan weed, duly potentiated and sold on a hallucinatory voyage from Texas north to New York. In the days leading up to the Gran Xu'tan of 2012, meanwhile, Evie contends with her grandfather's "Templars", now insinuated into the new Administration, and with the declining situation in Costazul... visited by clandestine American and Russian game theorists, the improvidential oil spill that's fouled the beach, assassins and an absurd theme park enterprise.

Events foreshadowed by and stemming from the most controversial, secret initiative since the Manhattan Project - an insanely ambitious effort to fuse astrophysics, nuclear research and man-machine symbiosis in the Utah high desert in the early 70's with Jeff Streich's flight towards the desolate Aleutian island of Angita.
